What Is Prescription Dysport® Injectable?
Prescription Dysport® is an FDA-approved injectable treatment designed to temporarily reduce or eliminate moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport is injected directly into targeted muscles beneath the skin to relax them, preventing the repeated contractions that cause visible wrinkles.
Also known as Reloxin, Dysport is made from a purified neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, the same source used in BOTOX Cosmetic.
Book OnlineApplications for Dysport Injectable
In addition to cosmetic use, Dysport has several medical applications. It is commonly used to treat:
- Excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis)
 - Cervical dystonia (neck pain and abnormal head position)
 - Muscle spasms

Cosmetically, Dysport is used to improve the appearance of:
- Forehead furrows
 - Frown lines
 - Crow’s feet
 - Skin bands on the neck

Dysport Injectable Procedure and Results
Dysport is injected using a fine needle directly into the muscles responsible for facial lines and wrinkles. Anesthetic is not required, although some practitioners may choose to apply a topical cream or use ice packs to numb the area.
Visible results typically appear within a few days and can last up to four months. With consistent treatment, results may last even longer. For best outcomes and safety, Dysport should be administered only by trained medical professionals.
Candidates for Dysport Injectable
According to the manufacturer, Dysport is intended for adults under 65 who want a temporary improvement in moderate-to-severe glabellar lines (frown lines between the eyebrows). It may not be appropriate for individuals with:
- Allergies to Dysport or its ingredients
 - Allergy to cow’s milk protein
 - History of facial surgery
 - Weak or unbalanced facial muscles
 - Inflammation or infection at the injection site
 - Sagging eyelids or eyelid folds
 - Deep facial scars
 - Thick or oily skin
 - Wrinkles that do not respond to muscle relaxation

Dysport is also not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have neuromuscular disorders.
Differences Between Dysport and BOTOX Cosmetic
While both Dysport and BOTOX are derived from the same bacterium, anecdotal reports suggest Dysport may act faster, spread more evenly, and have longer-lasting effects in some patients. However, individual results can vary.
Side Effects of Dysport Injectable
Side effects are generally mild and temporary. Most patients are able to resume normal activities immediately after treatment. Common side effects at the injection site include:

 - Bruising

When Dysport is injected into the glabellar region, temporary eyelid drooping can occur but usually resolves within three weeks. Side effects are similar to those associated with BOTOX Cosmetic.
